Well-organized race and expo. The swag is nice and I thought it was neat to also get an event poster included. The race is high-energy and lots of spectators throughout the course. The route is challenging with a few long, steep hills in the first half, but I managed to PR (14th marathon overall) with the right weather conditions. The route is scenic, hitting several nice views along the Ohio River and around the city, also starting and finishing downtown, and ending along the riverfront. The post-race party is great and offers the best spots along the riverfront (the Banks) for a finisher picture with your medal! I have run some big-name races, but I’m big on the Pig!

This course goes through the Prince William Forest, switching between gravel and paved surfaces with lots of hills. The scenery is beautiful, as you get to experience sunrise within the forest. It’s amazing running with 2000 people with no noise except the sounds of breathing and feet hitting the ground. If you need a crowd to distract you, you won’t find it here (until the very end). But, if you enjoy running with natural beauty all around you, this is the course for you.

Very well organized. Very inspirational, as it honors fallen military, and motivating, as it is staffed by Marines. This marathon takes you through historic Georgetown and by the National Mall–a great tour of the nation’s capital–finally ending with the short ascent to the Iwo Jima Memorial.
