March Lunacy 2019: Tournament Results

Our third annual March Lunacy tournament was an instant classic!

The Final Four was an epic showdown of familiar heavyweights on one side and spirited Cinderellas on the other, with both matchups decided in a one-day overtime thriller (a tournament first). In the end, the ever-popular Flying Pig outlasted patriotic powerhouse Marine Corps to set up a championship matchup vs. Appalachian favorite Hatfield McCoy, which edged out the breathtaking Glacier Half by the slimmest of margins.

But when the final buzzer sounded, one contender soared above the rest, securing the victory by withstanding a furious rally to win by the hair of its chinny chin chin. So we’re excited to congratulate our champion and announce that America’s Rave Race for 2019 is the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon! (Read the press release here.)

Hugs and high-fives to all the races who participated and to everyone who voted in this year’s tournament, we couldn’t do this without your passionate support. Note: Seedings are largely based on 1) total number of 2018 finishers and 2) RaceRaves ratings across all distances, with each of last year’s Final Four races earning the top seed in its respective region.

HOW IT WORKS: To qualify for and be automatically entered into our random drawing, you must submit your votes for any of the six rounds of the tournament from March 18 – April 8, 2019. Voting for Round One and Round Two closes at 8:00pm PDT/11:00pm EDT on Wednesday, March 20 and Sunday, March 24, respectively; voting for the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight rounds closes at 8:00pm PDT on Wednesday, March 27 and Sunday, March 31, respectively; and voting for the Final Four and Championship rounds closes at 8:00pm PDT on Thursday, April 4 and Monday, April 8, respectively.

Each participant will earn four (4) entries into our random drawing for voting in each of the first two rounds, three (3) entries for voting in each of the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight rounds, two (2) entries for the Final Four round and one (1) entry for the Championship round. Thus, voters can earn up to 17 total entries. In addition, two prize packages will be awarded at the end of the tournament to the two voters who select the most correct (winning) match-ups. In the event of a tie, a random drawing will determine the winners from among those participants with the same number of correct match-ups selected. Our overall Grand Prize winner (i.e. the voter who picks the most correct match-ups) will receive a FITLY minimalist running pack, $50 Injinji gift card and $25 INKnBURN merchandise credit, while the winner from our random drawing of total entrants will receive a $50 Injinji gift card and $25 INKnBURN credit. The runner-up in each drawing will receive a $50 Injinji gift card. Each winner will also receive their choice of a RaceRaves classic tech tee, singlet (women’s style only) or race hat.

On or around April 10, 2019, RaceRaves will select the prize winners and notify them by email. If a winner fails to respond and claim their prize by 11:59pm PDT on Sunday, April 28, 2019, then another winner will be randomly chosen and secure all the glory and spoils therein.

An email address is required to ensure only one entry per person per round and to notify our winners at the end of the tournament. Only legitimate email addresses will have their votes counted and be entered in the giveaway.
