This is a low key race organized as part of a triple marathon weekend. Steve does a great job directing. Aid stations are well stocked. Nice park. Very affordable. MORE

This is a F.A. race – no frills, no swag, no whining. It is extremely difficult. The views are breathtaking; although this year was overcast with some rain – not the norm for this area in mid-June. Waterfalls, mountain views, water crossing. Great folks putting this together, and great volunteers at the two manned aid stations. If you like a challenge and don’t need a medal, this event will not disappoint you.

Overall downhill course. The top portion is great. Some road, some single track. The 4 miles of sand is not great. The noise pollution once runners reach the city is terrible! The aid stations were very poorly stocked. I took the 1st bus to the start where I picked up my number and shirt, but they were already out of the size I ordered (I registered several months in advance). The railroad spike for finishers is unique.

Soaring Eagle offers great trails. Evergreen has been doing this for a few years now, so they’ve got it down pat. The aid stations are well stocked; although, the quality of finish line foods has diminished some over the last few years. Great people running the show.

This is a 12.5 mile loop course, but I never got sick of the repeat. Great volunteer support and plenty of aid. Five loops was plenty. The trails were great. Sloppy in places. Some good climbs. Weather could be a real factor, but we got lucky this year. In the right weather, this has the right blend of elevation and technicality to make a good hundred miler (if you don’t mind loops).

Small event on a 1.83 mile course. Almost all single track and lots of wooden steps. Nice run through the trees Tons of elevation change throughout the course. Nice views of Puget Sound. Plenty of fuel at the start/finish. This course if VERY challenging… very, very challenging. Be ready to climb a lot.

Nice single track trails. Not too technical. Four well marked loops through the watershed. If you need lots of swag or a big medal, this is NOT your race. If you want a nice day on nice trails with very manageable climbs, this is a good event at a reasonable price.

Three loops to make it 50K. If you don’t mind that, this is a good course. Lord Hill is steep, but not too long. Mostly runnable after that. Good single track most of the time. February: Can be wet, cold, and sloppy. Well organized and affordable. Nice shirts for an extra charge (but fairly priced). Well stocked aid stations.

Taylor Mountain has great trails. This course is a double 6.55 mile loop with bit more fire road than I prefer, but there was plenty of single track. It would get old as a full marathon, but 2 loops for a half was okay. A few good climbs, but mostly runnable. January weather can make things pretty sloppy. Fun theme; although, women have the upper hand when it comes to ’70’s and 80’s costumes. I’m not wearing short shorts ever, especially not in January.

10 minutes from town, but all single track. Good hills, considering Kansas is supposed to be so flat. RD went out of his way to find me a pacer for the 3rd loop. Tons included for a very modest price. I got a fleece jacket in addition to the tech shirt, nice buckle, dinner the night before, and breakfast at the finish line.
