I got into the Popular Brooklyn Half by virtue of the NYRR Virtual 6 program. Race starts in Prospect Park with some rolling hills before a nice straight path to Coney Island. The finish goes up a ramp to the Board Walk. Unfortunately I didn’t get to celebrate with a Nathan’s Hot Dog – the line was crazy long.

If you’re looking for a fun smaller race in Rhode Island, I can’t recommend this one enough!

While this is a “Free Race” it’s not, as Race Director Gary Allen says, “a free for all.” This is a very well put together race, and the community is very welcoming to the hundreds of crazy people who converge in this small mill-town in December to run up a 6.5 mile hill before coming down the backside that was created by MC Escher!

When I found out that non-elite athletes could run NYC, I had to do it; and was able to get a charity spot.
During the race: I loved all of the signs, getting high-5s from hundreds of people; the volunteers, the lady giving out hugs, the Twizzler at m22, coming into Central Park, the crowds, the Finish Line, that heat sheet, the medical staff (cramping & nearing dehydration), the poncho, and being among the crowd at #ProjectFinish!
