Gobbles’ Free Range 5K is the new Thanksgiving themed race by the creators/organizers of Gourdy’s Pumpkin Run (formerly known as the Great Pumpkin Run). Participants get a tech hoodie, which fits comfortably, and there’s plenty of stuff you can buy. If you want to make it a little tougher, you can do the “Toucan Challenge” where you carry two cans of canned goods with you (to be donated after, if you so choose). 2020 being what it is, the only option was virtual, but I expect after COVID dies down they’ll have live race locations like with the Pumpkin Run.

I very much enjoyed the Fly 5K last year and was disappointed, but understanding, when it had to be converted to a virtual run for this year. Nothing negative to say about it. The patch is neat (I might add it to my jean jacket) and the “buff” is nice as it’s another face covering I can use during the pandemic. The F-14 Tomcat race medal looks pretty sweet, too. Here’s hoping that next year we’re able to do a live race again.

When the whole COVID-19 thing started and people started hoarding toilet paper, Run Motivators came up with the “Potty Paper Race” as a virtual race. The medal had the image of a roll of toilet tissue paper on it and you could buy up to 5 add-on charms that looked like TP rolls to “hoard” rolls. Each charm was an additional 5K. It was an amusing way to deal with the new crisis.

This was a great run; the hoodie was really comfortable and warm. The hot chocolate at the end was tasty and the fondu was a nice touch. I have to admit that because I had slacked some during the winter and because Seattle isn’t flat, my legs were sore the next day. Still, I’m looking forward to doing this again next year.

The Mukilteo Turkey Trot is a fun run to do before you over indulge in Thanksgiving Dinner. Just remember to get there really early as they block off streets and, sadly, the event “staff” were just student volunteers who had no idea where the parking was supposed to be.

As I’ve never done a real 5K before, this was a new experience to me. Everybody was awesome and I had a great time. When I couldn’t run any more and started to walk, I received positive motivational comments from other runners. There were even water and snack stations for after the race. The closest thing to a “complaint” that I could make would be to say that because I’m starting to do runs as a way to help me lose weight, I was surprised to see stuff like doughnut holes at the food/snack station, but I still was grateful to get it either way. High praise from me for this and I’ll be signing up to do it again next year!

I signed up to do this with some co-workers and added on the Tough Pumpkin. I bought two small pumpkins and used a dowel to turn them into a barbell. I would have liked to have run instead of walking the whole way, but the small group I was with wanted to walk.

This was enjoyable, but mostly because I went with a friend. I had expected there to be more mud in the obstacles, like the Subway Beast Mode Challenges had, but likely the Evergreen State Fairgrounds wouldn’t let them do what they wanted to. This was also a lot of hurry up and wait as we spent a fair amount of time waiting to do each obstacle.

Just like the last year’s, this was a blast. While there was some waiting at obstacles, they had them set up with enough room that the lines were short and moved quickly. It’s just a pity that this was the final one because Marshawn Lynch retired.

I won free entry through the radio station and figured what the heck, I’d give it a try. There were a fair amount of obstacles with short lines as people were trying to get past them; lots of mud (so much in fact that I lost a shoe in one of the mud pits lmao). I had an absolute blast!
