I love this course and have done it twice. Sign up early because it sells out around September.

The first mile is completely downhill before going into rolling hills and then flat for the last 6 miles. It is perfect for a first timer, a BQ , a PR and even an OTQ. Make sure you train hills, specifically downhills, It is easy to go out too fast in the beginning , no matter how hard you try to stay on pace. Speaking of pace, they have a pace group pretty much for ever 5 minutes. They are all very accurate and they use people who have experience with ultras so the target pace is easy to them (I was told the 3:35 pacer won Western States!). In general you will find a lot of people trying to BQ here.

Aid stations are pretty much every 2 miles and they all have more than you need. Nuun, Clif enery gel/bars, water, fruit. porta potties.

On top of all of this , the crowd support is really great. Once you get to mile 5, the streets are pretty much lined with people cheering. As you get deeper into the course you will see more people and bands, its a nice distraction.

This is the most organized race I have done. The website is very easy to follow and find information on. (Some websites you have to dig to find things like the date, or course map!). They are really good with pre race communication.

CIM is one of those races I could see myself doing year after year.

This race is so perfectly timed with CIM and its worth signing up for. It is always on Daylight savings time too. The last two years I have done this run I have driven up from the South Bay at 4am (when it really feels like 5am).

They use all the same pacers and aid stations as CIM. I did find I was ultimately faster at CIM though, so whichever pacer you follow may not be the same one you follow come race day.

The scenery is nice, the course is pretty much flat and fast. Free pizza and beer at the end too!
