The marathon takes you through different parts of Des Moines and some of those areas I had never personally visited. The first part of the marathon takes you through hilly residential area, but once you get through that it’s pretty “flat” from there. Plenty of water and aid stations along the route so it was not necessary to carry my own water. Gummy bears, twizzlers, GU gels, pretzels and more are provided at different points along the way. Volunteers were amazing and the support from other runners and the cheering sections were fantastic.
