Race route is not too challenging, which will allow for some great times. And the route allows great space for spectators to cheer you on throughout.
The race committee does a fantastic job recruiting volunteers for the race, whether it be musicians playing along the route, water/Gatorade stations, or passing out tissues along the way.
Post-race food is always something to look forward to.
As is the medal. It always highlights something about Des Moines (the big green umbrella, shattering silence monument, etc.).
Overall a great race and one I look forward to each year.

Be part of the Drake Relays – America’s Athletic Classic – no matter where you are at on your fitness journey. With a 5K, 10K and half marathon all available, the options are there. The 5K & 10K courses are nit difficult to conquer. Participants receive a top-notch long-sleeve shirt, and the medals are always fantastic (let’s face it, a lot of us do this for the medals…). This will only continue to get stronger. Don’t miss out.
