My husband and I got married in Sedona, AZ, so we hold this city very close to our hearts and visit often. Of course we wanted to run this race! It was a beautiful morning with beautiful views all day. Nothing can beat the scenery! We decided to do the 10k, after running the Half Marathon at Lake Powell. It was a perfect distance. I am the slowest runner ever, but all the more to take in the views.

The race organization in the morning made many runners cranky, and we were heartbroken to see many runners treating the volunteers not as nice as we would hope. Many runners complained about the shuttles and the gear check. My husband and I even spoke to the lady running the gear check after someone became very vocal about the gear check organization. My husband and I have never seen the gear checks to be any different from this race. Not sure what others have experienced, but we were completely fine with the organization. There were so many people that not everyone could hear the start of the race, so many of the half marathons went off with the 10kers. I would just suggest more speakers for everyone to hear.

The hills were a challenge. The last hill before the turnaround for the 10k was tough to run back up. I am not complaining, but I should find more ways to train on hills in the near future. We would suggest more restrooms and aid stations along the way.

My husband and I loved the food trucks and vendors at the end of the race. Wish there were more food trucks to choose from because I just love that kind of stuff! The man selling beer was a riot! We wore our T-shirts and metals all day. Loved the bling.

All in all, this is a race you should not miss. Bring a group with you. You all would have such a blast as we did!

This was my very first Half Marathon, and boy was I spoiled! I thought the organization of this race was phenomenal. They send a packet of information to your email to review, and they have everything on hand for you during the expo before the race. I was able to get all my questions answered, along with tons of support from the people organizing the event. I even paid for the Terry Chiplin Positive Race Mindset Program. I liked his meditative approach to racing and gearing your mind up for an awesome race. During the race, I thought everything was so thought out and organized. Bathrooms, water, and aid stations were perfectly placed. I appreciated the fact that they had bananas and oranges at a few of the stops for more energy. I did bring my own Stinger Chews, but they had gels for free well! The pacers during the race was so supportive and cheered us on whenever we passed them. I never felt so included and loved. The views were spectacular. The blue water against the red sandy mountains was so pretty, we stopped to take pictures at a few of the most picturesque spots. Could not help myself. It was nice and cool out during this time of year, I hardly broke a sweat, so you know I looked good for those photo areas. That was a such a nice thing that the race offers free photos to be sent to your email. What a great memory this weekend was. I loved how at the end, the announcer had shared information about us to the crowd as we crossed the finish line. Felt like a rockstar. It was so fun! The snacks at the end were a wonderful refresher. The metal was HUGE. I have been wearing it at work all day. I am so happy we chose Lake Powell as our first Half Marathon and we plan on signing up for more vacation races soon!
