I keep coming back to RTP for a reason – they do a great job of organizing this race. This was the first year I skipped packet pick up on Friday. It was easy to pick up my bib and shirt on Saturday and find the bag drop. great job to the entire RTP crew!

Packet pick up was run smoothly. The team was vey friendly. I highly recommend taking the shuttle to the start. not much of a wait time. the course was great, how ever very hilly. I really don’t remember running on a flat surface much. only real complaint was that our pacer started off super fast. instead of slowing for the hills she ran them pretty quickly. but overall a great race.

Because of other events, they hold this race in the afternoon which can be very warm. it’s easy to get to and park. there are a lot of walkers you have to dodge at first but once you get going it’s a beautiful course. not super hilly but pleanty of long inclines.

Since it’s mostly down hill, I run from the finish line up to the start line then run the race. if you don’t want to run 8 miles, just park at the plaza and take their shuttle to the start. I’ve done that too and it’s easy to get on a bus and get dropped off in plenty of time.

This is the 6th time running Des Moines for me, and there is a reason why I keep coming back – the organization. Packet pick-up is easy, getting to the start line is simple, and the finish line celebration has a lot of positive energy. I love the course, a few gradual hills but you also get some great views along the way. I look forward to coming back in the future.

the RD Sherri does a great job every year with her team of volunteers. this is a bare bones race and it’s great because runners bring goodies to share. the course is wonderful, they spend the week leading up to the race clearing debris. plus mile 90 does a great job of taking action photos.
