About Me

  • Running club(s):

Moms on the Run, Moms Run This Town

  • Rave race:
  • Race that's calling my name:

    Ragnar Michigan

  • I run because:

I started running on a dare. Yes, really.  A friend challenged me to complete Couch to 5k, then run one race. I got hooked and ended up running at least one race every month that first year. Since then, I have run almost 100 races of all distances from 5k to Marathon, including Ragnar Relays.

Now days, I run to maintain my health and for the social aspect. I love running with friends because they challenge to me to be my best and to try new things. I can’t imagine life without the friends and memories I’ve made through running. Someday, I hope to win an age group award, even if I have to wait until I’m in my 80’s before the competition gives up!

I ran the full marathon at Grandma’s last year, but decided to run the half this year. Like last year, I loved every minute of it. This race is superbly organized, spectators are awesome, other runners are friendly. The whole weekend is a party!

This year, the weather was absolutely perfect for running (60’s, overcast, slight breeze), so there were a lot of PRs. I was able to PR my half marathon time by 11 minutes!

If you want a race that isn’t just about the miles, but the experience, Grandma’s is for you!!

This is a smaller, but well-organized race. Parking is easy, located in lots across the street from the park. Bag drop was a breeze, there were enough porta-potties for the number of runners, so lines were short. The Robbinsdale City Band provided music before the start.

The course is hilly, but I wouldn’t consider any of the hills as being “monsters.” Scenery is a mix of city, residential, and park roads and paths. Volunteer and/or police presence at every major intersection, with the course marked spectacularly with signage that included arrows AND the distance it coordinated with. There was no confusion about where to go, even with the course split for the different distances.

Post-race snacks included bottled water, Propel, bran and blueberry muffins, lemon gelato, and beer from Dangerous Man and Fulton. Shirt is a very soft cotton, casual-wear shirt, and finishers were given a nice medal.

Overall, a great race. I would definitely recommend this one!

The course is hilly, but beautiful. This year was the inaugural event and was so well-organized that I wouldn’t have known it was the first time, without them mentioning it pre-race.

With a field limit of 300 runners, parking was easy, packet pickup only took a minute, and the restroom lines are short. Aid stations were well-stocked with multiple fueling choices (soda, gels, electrolytes, chips, sandwiches, etc). Course was well-marked.

I have no complaints about this race and would do it again.

The half marathon completes two loops of the same course, which is difficult. While billed “fairly flat,” this course is actually quite hilly. Also, this race is not for the “back of the pack” runner, like me. While the time limit is three hours, they started closing down water stops and the finish line more than 15 minutes prior to the course closing time, which was frustrating. I liked how small the race is, but I wouldn’t consider it beginner friendly.

I love this race because it’s all about camaraderie while running and camping. The race village is a fun place to chat with runners from all over, as well as enjoy good food, the bonfire, and a beer while cheering. I’ll be back again!

This race is so much fun! The logistics are well thought-out, volunteers are awesome, crowd support is amazing. The entire city gets into the action. The course is beautiful, with the largest hill being “Lemon drop hill,” which is a freeway overpass. The rest of the course is gently rolling, with views of Lake Superior. I’m so glad I chose this as my first marathon!!

I was a newbie runner and didn’t know what I was getting myself into.
Pros: The expo was great, public transit made everything easily accessible, water stops were good.
Cons: Very hot, crowded throughout

This was the hottest race I’d participated in to date as a newbie runner. I hated every moment of it. I don’t know whether my experience would seem different now, as a more seasoned runner, but I don’t plan on finding out.

Beautiful race in historic, colonial Williamsburg. I have zero complaints about my first half marathon experience. However, some runners had trouble with the cobblestone section of the course, particularly those running in minimal or barefoot shoes. Swag was no-frills, but loved finishing in the William & Mary stadium.
