This was my first time running this marathon. I have ran in Tahoe with this race director and knew they would not disappoint. You will get loads of information on where to stay, what to see, meet up for social runs before and after race, where good places are to eat and even where to purchase awesome shirts. My fellow travel run friend Mike Beckwith posted a nice long review above and I will add that as a back of the pack marathoner it’s a good idea to carry your own sunblock as after the sun comes up it is on your back the whole race. Also, they do have a little bit of food at some aid stations like watermelon, grapes, cliff bars, pretzels, if you need more I suggest packing that as well. How can you go wrong running in a place like this (minus our missle scare) !! Book it and enjoy the sea and palm trees. Aloha !!!!

This is my 7th year participating in this fun and crazy race. I found that if you get there early and park near the finish it makes it easier to get out of the city. Purchase the muni bus ticket and bus over to the start line. I must say I like the idea of being on a bus with people before the race vs after with the sweaty and drunk people. If you’re a serious runner you want to get in coral A or B so you can actual run it. It is beyond crowded to get into your designated coral so make sure to get there early. I personally enjoy taking my time on this race and taking in the day. Where else can you see 10 Elvis’s, Wonder Woman, naked people, Mario Brothers all on the same course. They do have water and sports drinks on course. Bring money they do have venders on course with drinks, hotdogs, big pretzels. End of course the have lots of vendors giving away food. Looking forward to my year 8 next year.

This is my third year doing this race. I like it because it’s small. Usually under 200 participants. They give a nice quarter zip jacket. The bus ride to the dam this year was not fun for me as I had to sit in the back of the bus (car sickness is real). I would advise to bring your own food if you will need the intake. They have water, Gatorade and some gels. The aid station that we call the Bermuda Triangle (mile 15,17,21) do have hotdogs. You gotta be in the know and ask them to have ready for you when you pass by at mile 15. Come back and eat it at mile 17. Best hot dog EVER!! They always win for best aid station. Super fun people their every year. You are next to the water and cross several bridges which I think make for some fabulous pictures. If you can get some shots while there. Also, highly suggest hitting the Sundial Bridge the night before race. Its beautiful.

This year my best friend and my run buddy decided we would try something new on New Years Eve. We signed up to do a 6 hr endurance run. There are several options you can run 24hr, 12hr or 6hr. All starting at different times of the day. We picked 6:00pm to midnight thinking it was nice to run into the New Year and we could see some fireworks. We had a little trouble finding the event at first but circled around and found the driveway that took us to Crissy fields. This is a very low key event. We walked up and got our laminated bib and tracker. Slapped that thing right on our ankle. That was a first for me. Real bathrooms are close to the event and a few porta potties. The SF bridge looked spectacular at night. When it was time for us to run we made our way to the start. All of a sudden we noticed a small cluster of people starting to run. We asked the director “is it time “. Yep was his answer. LOWKEY!!!!! Off we went for our little over a mile loop. They had some pylons with a few fluorescent lights to show the way. We did bring headlamps and I felt they were needed throughout the race. You could change your direction and go clockwise or counterclockwise depending on what you feel like doing. So at times others would come with their bright bright headlamps at your eyes. Think of a car with highbeams. My eyes!!!!!!! They had one aid station that had plenty of fluids and eats. Loved our pull over Jacket that we revived. I think this race would be more fun if you had a big group of people go with you. At midnight they had a count down and served sparkling cider. You could see the fireworks off in the distance. Happy New Year !!

This is one of my favorite Brazen races and I have done them all. It is set in the beautiful mountains of Saratoga, CA. The course is mostly shaded with huge redwoods. I have done both the half marathon distance and the 10k. Both are challenging courses as you start off going up up up. There will be plenty of aid stations with lots of snacks, soda, ultima sports drink and water. Then on your way back you get some much needed downhills. Be careful as there are some roots that are hard to see. This is my favorite for race bling as the shirt and medal have a owl logo on it (I’m a sucker for a owl). This race also brings out the Christmas in us all as we dress up for this event. Hope to see you decked out in December!!!

This is my first race in Tulsa. The expo for this race was great. Thank goodness because I forgot to pack socks. I am a California girl so be warned bring gloves, long sleeves and hat. It was 38 at the start and didn’t warm up much throughout the race. The course had plenty of water and Gatorade stations that I didn’t even use my own water that I brought. There were beautiful neighborhoods with gorgeous houses. Lots of people on the side cheering with music and free cocktails. There are some little hills which means a little downhill to make up some time. I was a little sad that you weren’t on Route 66 for very long. Live bands were throughout the course some better than others 🙂 The race medal was solid and reminded me of an Oscar award. Spaghetti and other goodies at the end.

have done the half marathon on this course several times but this year decided to do the 10k with my 8 year old daughter. As this is a nice flat out and back course lots of people sign up to do this one. My daughter was amazed at the fully stocked aid stations. It was hard to pull her away from Jelly Belly’s, Mike n Ikes, and gummy bears. Everyone on course were very supportive. Brazen puts your name on your bib if you sign up early. She loved hearing her name as we passed or were passed by fellow runners. This is a perfect race for beginners. This years race was really really cold so I suggest wearing layers for this race. By the way, you can always come across the finish line like my daughter. Flip Fantastic 🙂

This was my first trail run 4 years ago and my introduction to Brazen Racing. This year they changed the course because work was being done on the damn. I like the old course better. This may be because I knew what was coming. This year we started out the same but instead of going up a big climb between 4-6 it was more of a gradual up up up. It seemed to be a constant up. I felt this way was harder because you never really had recoup time. Every time we passed a familiar runner they would say the same thing. Important if the course stays this way to have your own water source. Several people did not have water with them. The aid stations were pretty spread out 1.74, 5.43, 10.7, 12.3. I still find this one of my favorite races and one of the easier ones in the Ultra Series. Theme inspired so wear your Kilt and get ready to hear some bagpipes.

This is the fourth year doing this well organized endurance race. You start off the day by lugging your chair, cooler and canopy to the start line. There you set up camp for the next 12 hours. The race is a 3.37 loop that you continually do until the time is up. For the 12 hour and 6 hour race they open up a smaller .60 loop that you can do for the last hour. I didn’t carry anything with me on this race as they have plenty of stocked aid stations. The course has a few little hills that I swear get bigger and bigger as they day goes on. Lots of encouraging people on the trail. This race you also get a cool sweatshirt which is a nice change. This is a great place to see how far you can go go go in a safe environment.

This race is great for first time half marathoners. It usually starts off cool in the morning and can get hot. I would wear layers for this race for sure. Brazen is well known for their awesome fully stocked aid stations and there will be plenty on course. They know how to take care of their runners. If you worry about bathrooms they have portables as well a the park having several along the course. There are a few little hills on this course but all in all pretty flat. Usually you will find lots of the Brazen regulars at this race as it is their anniversary run so crazy shenanigans are happening before the race. Don’t let that scare you, lol. It will be a great time.

From the bib pick up to the last person crossing the finish line Brazen knows how to put on a race. This one is one of my favorites in their series. It is part of their Ultra series. With this one and 4 more in series you can race their ultimate half Rocky Ridge and receive an awesome coaster. Wildcat starts off going up up and up. Just when you think your calves can’t take it anymore you get some downhill. Don’t worry more up hills will be coming soon enough. There are plenty of water stations with tons of snacks for your to keep that strength up. This isn’t all trails but a little bit of pavements thrown in as well. I gotta say this year I wish I had some allergy meds on hand as there were lots and lots of wild flowers. When you come to this race have your kitty cat ears on so you blend in with the crowd. The medal at this race has a cool surprise when you get it in the dark.

This was my second time doing this 50k. The first time I got lost a extra few miles and ended up on the 100k course for a bit. I was not the only one it happened to a few other this year as well. Be sure to look at signs. It was kinda folded over and it said 100k but I thought was for the 50k. I think this is a beautiful course and to me the last 6 miles are the hardest. Bring a flashlight in case it takes you longer than you might think. Aid stations are fully stocked with great snacks and drinks. In the end you get a great shirt, pint glass and a little medal. I will be doing it again 2017 🙂

I have done this race several times. Brazen knows how to put on an exciting race. This course direction is a little easier than the New Years Eve direction. I highly recommend this for first time trail runners. The bling is extra special that if you do the NYE/NYD they will connect together.

This was my 3rd 50k and I highly recommend it. The course is beautiful with lots of water crossings. It is very runnable except maybe goat hill. The aid stations had plenty of food and two of them had chicken soup which I say EAT IT UP. It gave me a spring in my step for the last 5 miles. The medal is a little small but still very cute with a little frog on it. The frog is a big theme at this race. You will end with a special frog cupcake. Lots of great vendors at the end of the race. So have money hidden away in your running gear. See you there in 2017!!!

This is a nice flat course with a few little little paved uphills. I was able to get a PR at this race last year and I am usually a back of the pack runner.
