Loved the production of this race – from the expo, to the shakeout, to the vendors they had afterwards. It was a huge, fun, community day.
The Half starts w the Full & the corralls were PACKED. They sent off in waves and I wasn’t too sure what the waves were so I was in the back fighting for the first 7 miles to catch up to the pace group I wanted to be with (but by that time, I had already been faster than that pace so kindof a win!).
The hills in the first half were brutal. Hardest hills, lots of vert. However, after that, it’s pretty much all downhill until you get to the last mile or so, then a slight hill.
The finish line was tough to exit. You were packed in, fighting for 10-15 mins to get out of the finish corrall, shoulder to shoulder with allllll the other runners.
It was tough lol.
I PR’d, and had the course been a bit more flat, would have had an even bigger PR.

I thought this race was put on really well, with runners in mind every step of the way. Multiple days and locations for packet pickup. The race itself was set up well- course was clearly marked, aid stations fully stocked to support the 7500 + runners. It was superrr windy and rainy, but despite that, there was still good course support and folks cheering. Finish line was awesome and photos came fast.
For the course itself, it’s relatively easy- a few rolling hills but the last part of the race is all downhill for a speedy finish!

Great race to run to see Sac Town. The production of this race was great- packet pickup was easy on the day of, and starting and finishing in the stadium was so fun.
If you train with Fleet Feet you get a sick area to warm up and roll out after.
The race itself is mostly very mellow- some rolling hills, neighborhood areas, and a few not great areas but those pass quick.
Great number of runners to do this with and course support is good.

Running the full, I wasn’t prepared as I wish I was for the hills. They are incessant. Again and again… and again when you do the second loop. It is a beautiful course. Right on the ocean for almost the whole thing.
I DNF’d due to a hip injury that flared up at mile 22.
Expo was okay. Nothing to write home about.
Beautiful city, great crowds for the “city” section in Carlsbad.

Parking can be tough, but the city college is the best place to park. Residential area, parks, and paved road.

Overall, loved this race. The path it took was really pretty at night, and wasn’t super challenging of a course. Production was good – I registered last minute so I got an old shirt from a previous year, but I had no issues with that.
Fun food trucks around.

It is fun getting to run it in the dark and overall, did not feel “alone” on the course at any point. You run through mostly neighborhood and trails.
I liked this race, the heat was a challenge, bring a headlamp for visual support in the dark.

The first 15 miles was a blast. Stages were fun, crowd was exceptional, and ran through some fun parts of the city that, as a tourist, I was happy to see. By the time the half splits off, it gets a little strange- you go through some industrial areas, wooded areas, and generally desolate spots.
The final 5-6 miles were pretty sparse and brutal. The last section of the race was mostly uphill, so that was tough.
Not sure I’d run this as a full, maybe a half. The expo was a blast, and the pasta dinner for fundraisers was also very cool.

This is a great vibe of a race. Flat, out and back. Good course support. It is cool to run from pt richmond to albany and back. Brazen always has great production of races. I love racing with them, and took and age group award for this race so It has a special place in my heart.
