This is a great race to test your speed. It’s on a flat, paved trail with lovely scenery. The race is well organized, and I felt it was a good size — not too crowded to have to fight the masses, but a nice, lively atmosphere. Parking was easy, and the races all started right on time. The only suggestion I have is adding a few more outhouses.
And finisher ice cream needs to be more of a thing!

This was my first trail running race, and it sure set the standard high. I was a little nervous not knowing what to expect, but the website has tons of information and the race is very well organized. It’s a beautiful time of year to hold this race — green hills and flowers everywhere, at least this year. The infamous hills are worth it for the views. I enjoyed how the race started and ended with steep terrain for a good challenge and had fun, more runnable parts in the middle where you could open up and enjoy. One thing to be aware of is that there aren’t a ton of places to pass people. If you want to go for it, start towards the front. I made the mistake of starting in the middle of the pack and got stuck walking for quite a while. Not a huge deal, just wouldn’t do that next time.

This is a very well-run smaller local race that really impressed me. It’s hard and will definitely push you to your limits, but at the same time, the aid stations are amazingly luxurious (a variety of fresh fruit, licorice, brownies…BREAKFAST BURRITOS??). The course is beautiful and you can tell how much care and attention to detail the organizers put into the event. Obstacles were unique and fun — be prepared for hills and long carries. In a world of large OCR companies where the races start to feel the same, this one is special!
