This was perhaps the most beautiful race I’ve started! Small-town production that can’t be beat. Don’t let the 600ft of elevation fool you – there are tons of hills in addition to gravel, high headwinds, and lots of alone time. I felt like a celebrity crossing the finish line, though! Havre is too small not to run into someone after the race, so even though I was a solo traveler (and probably from the farthest away), I ran into a bunch of people after the race at a brewery. Race director, Jessica, is a queen! Well-organized race and interesting town. Highly recommend!

The course goes through different areas of Richmond, including the most beautiful view of a river with autumn trees at their peak. Junk food stations, party stops, and the many cheering squads made this a fun first marathon for me and my crew. The blanket, hat, medal, AND long-sleeved tshirt were just icing on the cake of a relatively easy course with only a hill or two – so much of it felt downhill! The only issue I had was that I was still adjusting to daylight savings time, but the opportunity to see so much of this cool city and flying downhill to the finish vastly outweighs that bit of whining.
