Arizona was my first experience with the Rock’n’Roll Race Series and I really don’t have many complaints. The course was very flat, with the exception of 2 or 3 hills in the back half, and even then I still consider the course easy. The weather was great, about 48 degrees at the start and warmed up in the mid 70s (coming from NH, this was basically ideal). I did better than I was expecting since my training went off the rails a bit, by no fault of R’n’R. There were bands set up at every mile, and some of the neighborhoods we ran through turned it into a block party, which was fun to run through (lots of energy). There were some sections of the course where there was no crowd support and things got a little stale. I participated in the 5k on Saturday as well as the marathon Sunday and got the extra Remix medal, which was nice, but the rest of the swag was just mediocre. I still think R’n’R overall put on a fun and safe event. I probably won’t travel to Arizona for this race again, but I would be inclined to do another one in another location (looking at NOLA at the moment).
