About Me

  • Running club(s):
  • Rave race:

    Edward Pearson

  • Race that's calling my name:

    Tokyo Marathon

  • I run because:

    I’ve been a competitive runner since high school having contributed to three state championship teams in both cross country and track. I’m also a two-time state champion in both the 4x800m and 4x400m relays. I’m now in my 50’s and remain very competitive in my age group. 5k’s were my primary distance until I turned 43 and ran my first marathon. I love everything from the 5k to the marathon, though I think my best distance is the half-marathon now. Currently, I’m trying to complete the Abbott World Marathon Majors 6-star challenge (I have Tokyo left to complete and who knows when I’ll be able to run that). After that, I’ll focus on the 7-continents challenge, then who knows. Running gives me complete peace of mind.

The course was beautiful and runs from Napa into downtown Sonoma. There’s not a lot of participants (about 3000?) so no issues of overcrowded roads. One caveat is that the 5k runners started much later and merged right about the time when the lead pack of the half marathon runners had about 2 miles left which led to a crowded race course. The course wasn’t overly challenging – it had a big hill on first mile, but mostly gentle rollers for the remainder. I finished 21st overall (1st in 50-54 age group) and all age group podium winners got a bottle of wine. After party was fantastic – plenty of wine tasting!
