The Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon is a fantastic event that exceeded all my expectations. The expo was one of the best I have ever attended, with a great selection of vendors and activities to get runners pumped up for race day. The production of the race was excellent, with everything running smoothly from start to finish. The course itself was moderately challenging, offering a perfect blend of scenic views and varied terrain. However, the heat on the day of my race added an extra layer of difficulty, making it even more of an accomplishment to cross that finish line. Overall, the Flying Pig Marathon is a well-organized, thrilling event that I highly recommend to runners of all levels.

Wow. Out of the 29 marathons I’ve done so far, this is by far the hardest. The hills are no joke. I went into the race knowing it would be hilly, but I did not expect there to be so many and so steep. Also, it was very hot and humid this year, which made it even more difficult. On the positive side, it really is a beautiful course and there were plenty of water/Gatorade stations. I would recommend this race. Just be prepared for the hills.

If you’re looking to check North Dakota off your list, this is a great race to consider. The volunteers were super friendly and everything was well organized. The course was fairly flat, and starting and ending in the Fargodome was a fun and unique aspect of the race. The course lets you see many of the highlights of the town. Aside from the race itself, Fargo is actually a fun place to visit, so give yourself an extra day or two to check out the town and the surrounding area.

Everything was well run during this race. There were plenty of water stations and volunteers. The course was OK. It wasn’t as scenic as I had hoped it would be, considering that it was on the coast. There wasn’t many views of the ocean, but it was mostly flat and fast. Swag consisted of a standard race shirt and a finisher tank top. Nothing really stood out as exceptional, but it was a really solid race.

I was surprised at how tough this race was. I went in expecting a personal best, but the downhill killed my legs and ankles and ended up walking most of the last 6 miles. Scenery was not that great. The race was held outside of Tucson along the shoulder of a highway with cars driving by the entire time. The number of aid stations was decent, and I appreciated that several of them had ice for the hot day. The expo was tiny, but the volunteers and staff were friendly. It’s not a race I would do again, but it is good enough to check it off my list of states.

I really enjoyed the Anchorage marathon. The event was smoothly executed and volunteers were friendly. There was not much swag other than the shirt, but the medal was nice. The course was not too hard, however it was EXTREMELY windy during my race and during one portion of the course, it was like running through a sandstorm. Only about a half mile at the beginning and then at the end was on roads. The rest was on paved trails through parks. I wish there had been more port-a-potties on the course. The ones that were there were few and far between. Aid stations had water and Gatorade. A few had fruit, but I wish there had been more. But overall, it is a good race, and if you are trying to run in all 50 states, you definitely won’t regret signing up for this one.

This is one of the best executed races I have ever participated in. Everything from the pre-race communications to the event transportation and aid stations was well organized. The course itself was very beautiful, but extremely challenging for someone used to running on flat courses in Florida. I was on my way to easily setting a PR until the last few miles of rolling hills and twisting roads took their toll on me. Overall, I loved the race and highly recommend it.
