– The pacers were amazing, right on time, with fantastic and encouraging energy. Shoutout to SF Run Club for providing the pacers!
– The shirt and medal are very tasteful. Would wear the shirt with pride!
– The weather was a struggle – overcast, rainy, wet, windy. The section on Great Highway running minor uphills with a huge headwind was quite the morale drainer but the energy of the pacers, other runners, and looking ahead kept us all going!
– Not too long of lines for the portapotties.
– The shuttles to parking at the end of the race were not the closest – in the cold and wet, adding another little walking bit was a minor morale decreaser
– The Jambar sponsors kept yelling out “one bar per person” which was kind of weird. I’m sure the people were required to say it, so I don’t blame them specifically for doing their jobs, but the sponsor could really do better as a whole. Telling someone who just ran their hardest for 13+ miles to only take 1 bar was rather affronting. It was the only food station visible at the finish line (the crackers and bananas were outside of the medal area, which was not visible or labeled in any way). So from a runner’s perspective, it felt like the only food available to us was severely restricting. To be told that one tiny granola bar is all the food I’m allowed to eat was not my favorite interaction. As a first time race runner, I’ve heard stories of the bananas galore and snacks at the finish line, so it was definitely a letdown.
– The bananas and crackers were abundant and friendly and amazing once I found them.
– The photographers stuck it out in the rain so it was a good encouragement seeing them also being troopers.
– The aid stations were very clear Nuun vs water. There was no difficulty in grabbing hydration – well staffed numbers.
– The course seemed to be labeled well. I was (obviously) not anywhere near the lead so I never had to worry about not following someone ahead of me, but every turn was well marked and staffed by volunteers.
