Overall, the event was well executed and I had very positive experiences with the event staff. I did enjoy that the vast majority of participants camped out at the venue, which does give the event as a whole a better atmosphere. I think my expectations may have been a little too high from what I had heard and read about the race in the past. I didn’t realize that the main stage/expo area was at the bottom of a long hill that was probably a 20 minute walk (at least) from our campsite. When my objective is to rest my legs before the race this limits my motivation to participate in more of the events there. Alternatively, after the race the last thing my legs wanted to do was go back and forth a few times after I brought my gear back to the campsite. In the end, it didn’t feel too different from other races I have done (though the competition was a lot more intense). Also, I was a little upset at how little was included with the race entry. Standard t-shirt and finisher medal was about it and I wasn’t stoked about the pictures I would need to pay for if I wanted a hi-res memory of the event. Still a great race but maybe not all it is cracked up to be.

My wife and I both participated in different races for this event weekend. I was really pleased with how the event was run and enjoyed the general location as a whole. We stayed at an airbnb nearby and had time to explore the area before, during, and after our races. It’s a wonderful destination for a race if you like the outdoors. The event venue/expo area is pretty decent. The food & drink after the race was greatly appreciated as well. Despite the challenges of having to set up two exchange zones I did enjoy that the long course was a point to point race. It made the bike that much more awesome that you don’t have an out and back along a great stretch of road with great views (if you can pay attention to all those while racing). I plan on doing this event again next year.

If you want to run through glacier capped mountains, volcanic like deserts, and rivers than this is the race for you. This point to point race isn’t one you can wake up in your hotel room and walk to the start line for. The bus ride there was a couple hours and even that felt like an adventure sometimes. This was truly a wonderful race in a wonderful country. Getting the opportunity to stay in and explore the area for a few days before/after the race was totally worth it. The race was very well organized, the aid stations were well supported, and all the food was delicious.
