This race is not for the faint of heart: the course is challenging (basically non-stop up and down hills for approximately 26.2 miles), the spectators are sparse, and the threat of a legendary flying monkey attack looms over you the whole run. That said, if you’re looking for something different from your average big city marathon, this is a great alternative. Great swag at the end – personalized long sleeve tech shirt, a t-shirt, stickers, magnets, and amazing posters with each year’s custom theme printed by Hatch Show Prints. Oh, and free Yazoo beer and potluck at the end. Train hard for hills!

Very well-organized race in a beautiful setting. I’m a history geek so this run was right up my alley. Loved the canon start and running through the park and seeing monuments and canons throughout. Perfect running weather (mid 40s, sunny, not windy) this year. There are some hills but nothing scary – I think they helped keep my legs fresh because I finished strong and felt pretty good after the race. Smaller race of about 250-300 full marathoners, so it never felt crowded and gave opportunity for reflection when running through a place where men gave their lives 150+ years ago. Highly recommend this race!

My 12th marathon, but my first Revel race and first race in the Covid era. I was supposed to run Mt. Charleston in 2020 and then in 2021, but those both got cancelled so I figured I’d put my registration fees for those towards trying this one out. Expo, race were all very well-organized. I loved that they bused us to the start but let us stay on the nice warm buses right up until a couple of minutes before our start time so we didn’t have to freeze in the pre-dawn mountain temps. I’m not particularly concerned about Covid, but I think the race organizers did a great job trying to keep things safe and low-stress for folks who might be more concerned with the small groups, staggered start times, etc. I’d totally be open to small start groups again in future races, too — it made for way less dodging around folks in the first few miles.

Course itself was scenic but it was right on the side of a road with giant trucks driving by, so that detracted from the pretty views a bit. Most of the downhill was in the first 15-16 miles, so my legs felt like someone had let off a nuclear bomb by the time we hit the last 6-8 relatively flat miles. My quads have never been so sore after a race! Couldn’t do stairs for several days. The last 6 miles or so were either right on the shoulder of a busy highway or through deserted farmland, so it took a lot of grit and determination to get through those on tired legs.

Overall, not my favorite course, but I was so happy to be able to race again, and really appreciate Revel’s top-notch organization. And the Park City area is gorgeous and definitely worth a visit!

The course itself is relatively flat — couple of minor inclines on freeway overpasses but no scary hills. I ran a PR a bit unexpectedly here, so the course is pretty easy. Running thru the hangar is cool, but that’s over in the first mile and then the rest of the course is kind of boring – running thru suburbia and shopping centers. Virtually no crowd support; if that’s important to you then skip this race. Aid stations were spaced regularly and had great volunteers (my only nit pick was some of the cups only had like a small sip of water in them so I had to take more than one cup a couple of times). Cool finishers medal.

Post race food was the main area for improvement: apples, orange slices and water were only available items, and not very interesting or appealing to me to eat

This course is very flat – only one minor hill around mile 4. Weather is usually nice for it, too, though this year was a little hot (probably around 70 by the time I finished). Those conditions make for a great PR course; I’ve run my PR here and my second fastest half marathon time as well.

Here’s why i think it’s just OK:
– Course is flat and fast, yeah, but it’s a really boring course – just a long out and back stretch mostly. And it’s a really CROWDED course. The half marathoners catch up with slower full marathoners around mile 5-6 and from then on you have to dodge slower runners. It’d be really de-motivating to be constantly passed by faster runners, and it was tiring to weave around people even 10 miles into the course
-Not a very spectator-friendly course, if that’s your thing. I don’t really care about lots of spectators and big crowds, but my family had a hard time finding a good place to cheer for me and that did bum me out
– Corral system is horrible. I was in the 1:30-1:45 corral and was dodging people walking in the first quarter mile. Overheard two guys next to me saying they were aiming for 2:10 halfs – why the heck were they in with 1:30 half marathoners then? Need to get a better system for putting people in corrals.
-Race shirt is nice technical fabric but is pretty hideous.
– Post-race food was adequate, nothing memorable.

Still, Huntington Beach is pretty nice place to hang out before/after the race, so it’s not a terrible option for out of town visitors looking for a nice winter race.

Very well-organized half marathon, from the expo down to the finish line. Course was a little hot this year by the end, and there are some rolling hills, but it’s quite scenic and enjoyable. Love that they actually assign you to a corral, and love the extra finisher’s jacket included in the price. Great race! I’ve run the half twice now and would do it again.

LOVED this race! It’s on the smaller side, and spectator support is fairly thin the second half of the race, so the latter miles can be a bit lonely. But weather was perfect, scenery was unbeatable, and it capped off a perfect vacation in an absolutely incredible country!

Race was well-organized. Easy expo. Would have liked more water stations, but I carried my own and was fine. Best part is that Culture Night is later that day, so you can go drink plenty of beer afterwards and enjoy the festivities without any guilt (you just burned all those calories, after all…)
