The course scenery was excellent and the after party was one of the best I’ve attended. Packet pick up was smooth, other than the small, congested parking lot. Transportation was well thought out, but lines became extremely backed up in Sonoma, resulting in a 10-min start time delay. This is unacceptable considering how many years they’ve put this race on. Although there were supposedly aid stations on the course they were not easily identified (maybe use the standard Red Cross sign?). The biggest complaint about the race was the lack of water stations. Most major races have at least one stop every 1.5 or even every mile. If you’re going to host a race in the middle of July in the middle of wine country with little shade, you need to have more water stops. I’m sure a lot of people suffered heat exhaustion or even worse, heat stroke. Despite my criticisms, I thought it was an awesome race and the after party certainly made up for any shortfalls.

This was a very well-run race and is my first Destination Race. It was relatively small and the course was not too crowded. Plenty of water stops along the way. I love the race shirt but it shrunk a little and now is almost too tight. I heard other people complaining that their t-shirt size was sold out, probably because people were being told to get a shirt size up. The wine tasting at the finish was fun but the space was a little small and some of the wine that was being served wasn’t that good. It was nice having Firestone Walker as another option. I recommend adding another local brewery or step up the quality of the wines. I loved doing the race on Saturday and I appreciated the day-of packet pick up option.
